LOCATION:
This area was one of the most elegant residential areas during Tsarist times. Today, the majority of foreign consulates are located here along or nearby Furstadskaya Street. Take a walk and look at the many old, grand buildings which are now home to shops and cafes. Visit Tavrichesky Gardens, a park built in the 19th century in an old Europe fashion. The area is also quite close to the Field of Mars, the Summer Gardens and Michalevsky Gardens – all a short walk across the Fontanka river. The headquarters of the FSB (former KGB) is also nearby. If you are in the city during the white nights season, between mid May and mid August, don’t miss a chance to stroll along the embankment and watch the many bridges across the Neva rise – it is really a spectacular site that you will never forget. Chernyshevskaya metro station is within walking distance.
